Communicating in a foreign language is one thing, but translating from the source to the target language is a much more demanding task that requires a well-educated and trained professional. A good translator does not only have to interpret the essence of the communicative purpose into another language, but must also preserve the author’s meaning, style, and ideas in the text and transfer and adapt them to the target language.
It has become increasingly recommended for researchers to write articles and other publications in English. In such cases, it is sensible to collaborate with a specialized copyeditor or translator who is an expert in the text type. Those of you who would rather write the entire text in Slovenian can depend on us to properly translate this demanding text type. We will work closely with you during this process to make sure all the appropriate technical terms are used. Of course, we also translate the abstracts to your articles and other publications. This way, you may be sure you have submitted a linguistically impeccable text.
After the long journey of writing a thesis, translating the abstract may seem a mere formality. However, this short text contains extremely condensed information and technical terms, so we advise you leave the translation to the experts. By now, you have probably read the text so many times that you may not notice any grammatical, stylistic, and formatting mistakes. No one will read your text more carefully than a copyeditor. We offer a comprehensive service package (copyediting, abstract, and summary translation) or any individual service.
Guided conversation in English is great for people who had gotten the basics of the language in school, but have buried that knowledge somewhere in the back of the mind. Together, we can find that long lost knowledge through relaxed conversation in a stimulative environment and help you rid yourself of your fear of speaking in a foreign language. You will renew and deepen your grasp of English during one-on-one conversations, becoming able to confidently communicate with people from around the globe.
Živa Malovrh holds a master’s degree in translation (Slovenian–English–German) from the Department of Translation at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ljubljana and was the recipient of the Faculty Prešeren Prize for her master’s thesis.
The main areas of translation in which she has gathered experience encompass translating and copyediting scientific texts, legal texts, marketing materials, and texts from numerous other areas. She also has years of experience with teaching and tutoring foreign languages, so she is happy to offer one-on-one hours of conversation in English.
She is a member of the Copyediting Society of Slovenia, the Association of Scientific and Technical Translators of Slovenia and is also a DZTPS Accredited Translator for Slo–Eng and Eng–Slo translation. As a holder of a Trados SDL licence, she has been perfecting her skills in computer-aided translation and creating termbases. One of her key priorities is building long-term work relationships with clients that may be institutes, companies, offices, or individuals.
My career path has had quite a few ups and downs, but it has always led in a single direction—starting with studying translation at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana. After completing my studies, I was determined to successfully apply the knowledge I had gained. I founded Malovrh Tiran Language Services so I can offer high-quality translations and copy editing to a wide variety of clients.
I want to continue to build my professional competences. My short-term goal is to master the Trados SDL tool for computer-aided translation, while my long-term goal is to become a court interpreter for English. I also want to affect positive change in my field, so I actively participate in societies of professionals in linguistics striving to regulate the legal status, position, and rights of translators.
